National Executive

National Executive members are selected from the GWNZ membership.

Pip Jamieson

President – Pip joined Graduate Women New Zealand in 2016 and at the start of 2017 stepped up to become the PAC Convenor.

She works with the Provincial Development Unit [MBIE] as the Senior Regional Adviser for the Top of the South, and has held other roles with INZ, the Nelson Regional Economic Development Agency, and Nelson Tasman Business Trust and is a Business Mentor (BMNZ).  Pip has been on a number of boards (the Career Development Association of New Zealand, Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce Vice President, Nelson Polytechnic Council, Nelson School of Music) and is a member of the Institute of Directors. Pip is also on the National Council of Women National Board having held roles as their Consumer Affairs/Economics Standing Committee convener, and President of the Nelson Branch.

Sita Venkateswar

Vice President – Associate Professor Sita Venkateswar is a socio-cultural anthropologist.

Her research documents the ways academic practices can be responsive to social inequities.

She incorporates critical feminist scholar-activist research methodologies, designated as Public Anthropology, informed by feminist and postcolonial theories.

Jo Innes

Vice – President | Trust Secretary. Joining GWNZ in 2012, I am also the current President for Graduate Women Manawatu branch and a member of the Graduate Women Manawatu Charitable Trust Board.

Throughout my career I have been responsible for leading and managing service organisations. My first senior role was as service manager in the health sector, followed by many years leading my own business consultancy and research company. Currently, I work in the Strategic Project Management Office at Massey University.

Anne Stephenson

Secretary – Anne trained as a secondary school teacher of foreign languages, and has taught French, German, and Japanese in New Zealand, and English in Europe.

She is also a qualified librarian. Currently she is running a school library and working on a PhD in information literacy in compulsory education.

Shirley Gillett

Convenor International Relations (CIR). I have been involved with Graduate Women(Otago) as President and CIR, and discovered through attending conferences a passion for International connections and projects.

I am a primary trained teacher and academic for many years at the University of Otago.

I have represented New Zealand in hockey, and coached females for many years. Currently I am a Board member of the Otago Hockey Board and  NHWT:HK

Social justice issues and education are driving forces in my life and providing girls and women with opportunities for further learning and research is what I believe will advance women and to which I would hope to contribute.

Bernadette Devonport

Dr Bernadette Devonport is the Immediate Past President. She has a keen interest in furthering the involvement of women in education.

As a former secondary school principal and President of the Canterbury Branch she brings the skills she acquired in teaching and management to the National Executive of GWNZ. Currently she is also a regalia volunteer in Christchurch.
