Our next Mentorship Workshop will be held online on Wednesday, 28 May 2025, from 7.00 - 8.15 pm.
Topic: From ‘Wait, What?’ to ‘I Got This’: Surviving and Thriving in Postgraduate Studies in New Zealand
Facilitator: Beverley McNally
Speaker: Menna Mohamed, PhD Candidate
This mentorship session offers an honest and insightful look into the acclimatization challenges faced by women who move from overseas to pursue postgraduate studies in New Zealand, whether a master’s or a PhD. Drawing from her own journey, Menna will explore key differences in academic culture including the shift to critical thinking and self-directed learning, the nature of communication with educators, and the integration of Māori values in academia. The session will also cover navigating support systems, cultural adjustment, and dealing with administrative processes. Whether you're an international or domestic postgraduate student, these reflections will provide valuable guidance on how to embrace these challenges and grow both personally and academically.
