The Mildred Keir Award is a second chance education award; funded by GWNZ and administered by New Horizons for Women Trust. This year the Award was made to Karen McLeod. Karen is studying engineering at Waikato University and is in her second year. She had always wanted to be an engineer but left school at 15 so tertiary study was not an option for her. She has had a productive working life but now on her own with the two children, and so decided to return to her first career choice.
