Nimeesha Odedra

Nimeesha is a third year PhD student at Massey University (Albany) with several years of experience as an academic researcher. Her research looks at how skilled migrant women’s careers evolve in their host countries.

Skilled migration is increasing in New Zealand, with women making up almost half of skilled migrants coming to our country. Nimeesha’s research will provide an in depth understanding of the pathways they follow and factors that help/ hinder their ability to rebuild their careers. This is an area of increasing importance and relevance both in the New Zealand and global context. In the last three years Nimeesha has presented her research at several academic conferences as well as being invited to a number of industry presentations. She really enjoys teaching however her passion lies in research, and so hopes to continue working in academia after completing her thesis.
