Helen will walk us through her approach to analysing and translating the letters written in 1840 by Bishop Jean-Baptiste Pompallier and French Marist Roman Catholic missionaries in the Pacific, 1836-1854, to Fr Jean-Claude Colin, Marist Superior General, in Lyons, France for her thesis:
“Culture, politics, religion and language in the letters of French Roman Catholic missionaries in 1840 New Zealand.”
