The Ministry of Education (MoE) is currently carrying out a refresh of the New Zealand curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. The refresh is intending to ensure New Zealand history is taught in schools. MoE has released a draft curriculum and is currently undertaking public consultation. Graduate Women New Zeland (GWNZ) is preparing a submission jointly with the National Council of Women New Zealand to ensure that women’s history, diverse voices, and histories specific to local communities are included. GWNZ is seeking member feedback on views, opinions and any areas that members feel are not sufficiently covered in the draft. Feedback will be compiled and form the main points of the submission to MoE.
We have time to give this some thought.
See Action Item response sheet in this link for further information. Please send any comments to Karen Wells and Rae Duff via randsduff@gmail.com by end of April – they are pulling the GWNZ submission together.
