As we embrace the beautiful month of August, I am thrilled to share some exciting news and upcoming events with you all. Firstly, mark your calendars for the highly anticipated Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, 7th October 2023 in Wellington. This event brings us together as a community, and your presence and participation are invaluable to us.

Reflecting on the past month, we commemorated the beginning of the Māori New Year on Friday, 14th July 2023. Te Rā Aro ki a Matariki was celebrated nationwide, symbolising a time of renewal, connection, and reflection. It reminds us of our shared heritage and the generations of incredible women who have championed education in New Zealand since 1921.

Last year, Graduate Women North Shore proudly organised an event to celebrate our history and the legacy of the organizations that preceded us:

• New Zealand Federation of University Women (1921 – 2000)
• New Zealand Federation of Graduate Women (2000 – 2016)
• Graduate Women New Zealand (2016 – present)

It is truly inspiring to be part of an organisation that has remained rooted in its values and mission throughout the years. We continue to support women in education, ensuring that opportunities are available for generations to come.

As we approach the AGM, I encourage each of you to reflect on the impact of Graduate Women New Zealand in shaping the lives of countless women in education. We owe our gratitude to those who have paved the way before us, and we remain steadfast in upholding their legacy.

I want to share an essay written by Janet Angus, originally published in Women Together: a History of Women's Organizations in New Zealand in 1993. Ann Pomeroy updated it in 2018, highlighting the unwavering dedication of our organisation to its values.

Let us come together on 7th October with enthusiasm and a sense of unity, as we celebrate the past, cherish the present, and envision a bright future for Graduate Women New Zealand.
