“Fewer men are attending university and thinking is going into how universities can balance the gender inequity.
I’d like to discuss my point of view regarding this statement, and reasons why I think more women need support to attend university.”

Melissa Powell is an elected member of the Devonport Takapuna Local Board.
She graduated with a Masters of Human Rights (first class honours) in 2018. She has a 25-year career as an advocate for children, whanau and communities. Originally from a nursing and public health background, Melissa understands the social determinants which are barriers to success and how to tackle those barriers from grassroots initiatives to legislation change.
