At our October meeting, Alison Talmage talked enthusiastically about the health benefits of rhythm and melody she sees in the CeleBRation Choir she leads. The choir is an initiative at the Centre for Brain Research at the University of Auckland.
Alison, a registered music therapist, said the aim of the choir is to help rehabilitate the speech and language of those suffering from neurological conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s and dementia.
She also pointed out that many of these people feel isolated socially and the choir is a way for them to connect.
